Remarkable victory of Yuichi Fukunaga in the Longines International Jockey’s Championship 2014
Leading up to the Longines Hong Kong International Races, taking place on Sunday, 14 December, the Longines International Jockey’s Championship was held in the center of Hong Kong, at Happy Valley Racecourse. This race evening was enhanced by the presence of Longines Ambassador of Elegance Chi Ling Li, whose charisma and grace were in perfect harmony with the elegance of the event.

The Longines International Jockey’s Championship includes a four-race competition, reuniting an all-star cast of the world’s best jockeys. The jockey accumulating the biggest score is crowned the winner of the championship. With 24 points, Yuichi Fukunaga from Japan won the competition, taking home the first prize and a Longines timepiece. Joao Moreira (Portugal) finished second with 20 points, followed by James McDonald (New Zealand) with 10 points.

In addition, the jockey with the most consistent presence during the entire season will also be honored during the inaugural Longines World’s Best Jockey ceremony, taking place on Friday 12 at the gala dinner of the Hong Kong Jockey Club. This prize marks the first time that a jockey will be quantitatively recognized as the best among his or her global peers.

As the Title Partner and Timekeeper of the event, the Swiss watch brand was proud to unveil during the Longines International Jockey’s Championship its new Conquest Classic Moonphase chronograph, which celebrates the refined elegance of equestrian sports. The sophistication of this model, including a moon-phase display, makes it an eminently refined timepiece and echoes the excellence and elegance of the stars of the equestrian universe.

Longines’ passion for equestrian sports dates back to 1878, when it produced a chronograph engraved with a jockey and its horse. Seen on the racetracks as of 1881, this model was extremely popular among jockeys and horse-lovers. It enabled its user to time performances to the second and was soon being used by most of the sports judges in New York. Today, Longines’ involvement in equestrian sports includes horse racing, show-jumping and endurance competitions.
